Babysitting Course

The Babysitting course, refreshed and revised, now has a greater emphasis on First Aid skills. The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting course covers everything from managing difficult behaviours to essential content on leadership and professional conduct as a babysitter. Babysitting promises to deepen and enhance the responsibility that older youth feel when caring for younger children. This updated curriculum, complete with new science, also provides improved learning when it comes to giving the appropriate care in the event of an emergency.

Pre - Course Requirements

  • 15 years or older by the last day of the WSI course.
  • Ability to perform Red Cross Swim Kids 10 strokes and skills (Front Crawl, Breast Stroke, etc).
  • Hold a minimum qualification of Red Cross Assistant Lifeguard, Emergency First Aid or equivalent. (need not be current)
  • Access to a computer with an Internet connection to complete the Red Cross Online Learning Modules.
  • Both the Online and Teaching Experience components must be completed independently prior to entering our classroom.

Course Components

In order to be successful in the Water Safety Instructor course you must attend, participate and complete 100% of all four course components below. The Teaching Experience the participant is required to complete a minimum in both Red Cross Preschool and Red Cross Swim Kids classes within six months of finishing the Online component.

  • WSI—Online – 14–20 hours.
  • WSI—Skills Evaluation* – 3–6 hours.
  • WSI—Teaching Experience – minimum 8 hours.
  • WSI—Classroom and Pool – 9 hours classroom, 12 hours pool.
This Red Cross course allows successful candidates to babysit children and youth.
